The daffodil has been a symbol of hope and new beginnings for centuries — in Persian tradition it is the flower of the new year, given at Nowruz to welcome fresh starts. In Greek mythology Persephone was gathering daffodil blooms when she was taken to the underworld, and it was the daffodil that lured her back to the surface each spring. For December, the month that ends one year and holds the beginning of another, it couldn't be more fitting.
